[front door opens]
DANIEL:Dad?
ARTHUR:In here.
DANIEL:Brought you those biscuits.
ARTHUR:You didn’t need to.
[bag placed on table]
DANIEL:How are you?
ARTHUR:Fine.
[pause]
DANIEL:Dad, those calls.
ARTHUR:What about them?
DANIEL:Martin told you what they are?
ARTHUR:Yes.
DANIEL:So you know it isn’t actually me.
ARTHUR:Daniel, I’m old. I’m not stupid.
[pause]
DANIEL:On the recording you were talking to it like it was me.
ARTHUR:What do you want me to do? Correct it every thirty seconds?
DANIEL:No. I just thought...
[pause]
DANIEL:You asked about staying with us.
ARTHUR:Forget that.
DANIEL:Dad.
ARTHUR:Bad night. That’s all.
DANIEL:We could maybe sort something.
ARTHUR:Don’t start moving furniture.
[pause]
DANIEL:I could clear the office.
ARTHUR:You need the office.
DANIEL:We could work it out.
ARTHUR:Daniel. Have a biscuit.
[clock chimes eleven]
MARTIN:Your Sunday family call is due, Arthur. Familiar Presence is currently switched off.
DANIEL:I’m here.
MARTIN:Would you like me to dismiss the reminder?
ARTHUR:Please.
[19 seconds silence]
DANIEL:What have you been watching?
ARTHUR:Oh. This and that.
